🌟 Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month and a Special Birthday 🌟

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — a time dedicated to shining a light on mental health, reducing stigma, encouraging open conversations, and supporting those who live with mental health conditions every day. Observed since 1949, this month reminds us that mental health is just as important as physical health and that no one has to face challenges alone.

Why Mental Health Awareness Matters

Mental health conditions affect millions of Americans — 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 6 youth experience mental illness each year. Yet stigma often keeps people from seeking help, with many not receiving the treatment they need.

This May, the focus is on turning awareness into action: sharing stories, building community connections, challenging silence, and advocating for better resources and understanding. Conditions like anxiety, depression, Tourette Syndrome, and tic disorders are part of this conversation. Organizations and individuals across the country, including right here in Mississippi, are working hard to make a difference.

Happy Birthday to Kyrann Markham, Founder of The Tourette, Tics and Anxiety Society of Mississippi (TTASMS)!

This Mental Health Awareness Month holds extra meaning as we celebrate the birthday of Kyrann Markham, the dedicated founder of TTASMS. Kyrann’s passion and leadership have created vital support, education, and advocacy for individuals and families affected by Tourette Syndrome, tics, anxiety, and related challenges in Mississippi.

Through TTASMS, Kyrann has built a community where people feel seen, understood, and empowered. Their work embodies the spirit of this month — turning personal experience into positive action that helps others thrive.

Happy Birthday, Kyrann! Thank you for your tireless efforts, your compassion, and your commitment to making Mississippi a better place for those navigating neurodiversity and mental health. Wishing you a year filled with joy, continued impact, and well-deserved celebration.
